Camp Horizon Tour

“See what the Lord has done.”

White House

The house next door was always a place of mystery. Missing combs, brushes and shampoo were once blamed on the headless lady, a legend associated with the house.

For many years, campers and staff would sneek over to catch a glimpse of the house up close.

The True Story – The Pool Inspector

When the newly constructed pool was being inspected and licensed to open, the inspector volunteered that he grew up in the area.

He volunteered the legend of the headless woman and asked if we had ever heard the story.

He was the first to confirm to the camp staff that there was a true story behind the legend.

The True Story – Uncle Joe

On a trip to retrieve a donation, Joe Farmer (with the Lord 2020) explained that he once lived on Sunnyside as a boy.

He told how his aunt had died in a collision with a train at the bottom of the hill below camp and the White House. He even showed us her grave.

The True Story – Mrs. Biggars

Mrs. Biggars lived in the brownstone on the other side of the White House. She grew up in the White House and sold camp ten acres along the north border.

When asked about the legend, she remembered that it was a rainy night and a couple had been to their home selling Fuller Brushes. They also were collecting things to recycle and left without the toothpaste tubes.

Someone dropped the tubes to them out a window, then moments later, there was a collision with the train at the bottom of the hill. She knew the woman died, and about the legend, but could not confirm the rest of the story.

It was used in a movie in the early 2000s which offered an opportunity to tour the home.

When the land was sold after Mrs. Biggars died, Camp Horizon was given first offer to buy (at her request). Sadly, the cost was beyond our means at the time.

The house burned down about 2021. Only the brick chimney remains.
