Swimming Areas

From 1976 to 2000 (24 years) the only swimming area was in the lake. The floating dock was popular and the swim ropes/floats had to be put in place prior to inspection each summer.

In the later 1990s, a drowning in a Florida lake was blamed on poor visibility. Water in most lakes is tannin-colored. The rule required seeing a white disk at a depth greater than our swim area near the dock.

At first our swim area was closed, but after an outcry across the state, exemptions began to be granted. They could also close the lake for bacteria or presence of amoeba.

A pool had been discussed for years, but it was not a priority. The pool was constructed in 2000.

The first swim was Junior One 2000.

There is a photo from Training Camp 2000 taken in the empty pool (to be added).
