Camp Horizon Tour

“See what the Lord has done.”

The Camp Road

This road runs through the swamp to access a citrus grove on the lakeside property (main camp). It has been widened some over the years but remains packed clay/sand.

The road inside of camp.
The Road Along The Tracks

This road ran parallel to the train tracks. You can see the grove and the tractor barn (now the craft shed) to the left. The road has shifted and is now on the old railroad bed in this location.

The Road – Utilities

The road through the swamp was the only access to the lakefront property. Pipes and conduit were burried to provide electricity to the camp, and to pump water and sewage to the waste plant on the front property.

Other Camp Roads

This view is from the shop in 1983. The chapel site is between here and the lake. Notice the soft sand road. The road from Sunnyside Dr was like this in the early years. Many cars were pulled out with the tractor.

The road location shifted which worked for a while, but eventually a road bed of rock and clay was required and later paved.

In the early years the road along the tracks was preferred, but after the orange trees were destroyed by a freeze, the road in front of the duplex seen here was used.

There was a sign here pointing to registration. One year our family arrived to see a young man holding the sign and an umbrella. He had run over the sign with the Woody, and his punishment was to “be the sign” for the day. (Sorry, no photo.)
